For wet environments, it’s vital to use a moisture-tolerant adhesive. AltroFix A19 Plus is a two-part polyurethane solvent free adhesive that, once cured, is not affected by spillages or water and other liquids.
Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces help prevent slips in wet and dry conditions and whether the user is wearing shoes or bare foot. They reduce the risk of a slip to one in a million, even with contaminants such as shampoo and shower gel. When used with Altro Whiterock, it creates a hygienic, impermeable system – ideal for areas that need to look good and are easy to maintain.
We offer weld rods that co-ordinates with our flooring, plus training on this and every aspect of installing an Altro floor. The right prep is essential here – for more information, take a look at our blog.
Altro Whiterock has been designed to fit perfectly with Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces forming a sealed, watertight system that includes welded jointing, coveability and compatibility with drainage. Available in a wide range of colours and finishes and with a 20 year guarantee, this hygienic system makes spaces look good for the long term. We recommend installing the flooring first – this helps avoid dropping adhesive on a newly installed floor. If this isn’t an option, using a concealed transition strip (see point 6) makes it possible to installed the wall sheet first – its use also makes it easier to remove the flooring at a later stage, without damaging the wall sheet. You can find our downloadable installation guidance here.
A cove former is fitted at the junction of the Altro Whiterock wall sheet and the floor. Once adhered, the rounded shape makes it easier to clean the floor-wall junction, and helps to maintain a hygienic finish by preventing the build-up of dirt or bacteria. We recommend using the appropriate adhesive to install coving. Regular adhesive is not strong enough to bond cove former and floor.
A concealed transition strip, installed before the Altro Whiterock sheet, makes the wall sheet ‘kick-out’ at the bottom so the floor can go underneath and sit behind it. Silicone should used when back-filling all Altro wall sheet and Altro floor fittings. We recommend it for wet environments as water runs down the wall sheet onto the floor rather than hitting the join; it helps create a watertight finish that maintains a strong aesthetic appearance.
Plan the placing of the Altro Whiterock wall sheets to minimise the number of joints inside the shower or next to a drain. This puts less pressure on the weld/trim, helping ensure the system is watertight. We also recommend avoiding corner areas to help sheet alignment and better protect this vulnerable area.
One option for joining the Altro Whiterock sheets is a hot weld, using a colour-coordinating weld rod. For full details on how to do this, we have a short video. Follow this by silicone-sealing all abutments and exposed edges.
We recommend using a combination of Altro adhesive and application tape to adhere Altro Whiterock. The tape is positioned at the top, middle and bottom of the sheet. To help the tape stick to the substrate, use Altro W165 Primer. See this installation step in action.
You have a choice of adhesive depending on the surface you are installing Altro Whiterock onto. AltroFix W139 is water resistant and can cope with the high temperatures typical of a wet room. AltroFix W157 is recommended for absorbent walls only – if you use this adhesive over tiles, it will not set. For details on how to prepare, mix and apply Altro adhesives to our wall sheets, see our installation guide.
Altro Whiterock should be installed on a surface that is sound, dry and free of contaminants. See our short video on setting out your wall sheet.
This is a quick and simple way to join Altro Whiterock wall sheets together in a way that cannot be removed once the sheet is fixed. Single part trims are designed for hospitals, care homes and other areas where the trim could be removed and used to harm the individual or others. Unlike with the two-part trim, a small chamfer is applied to the sheet to make it easier to fit the single part trim.
Two-part trims are ideal for general purpose applications outside of critical care and secure areas. It covers the edge of the sheet and gives a finished edge.
To seal the space between wall sheet and ceiling, simply use a co-ordinating Altro silicone sealant, ensuring that the wall sheet has been cleaned with cleaner primer first. Watch our short video.
Thermoformed corners look great and, because there is no break in the sheet, are a more hygienic way to fit around corners. We work on thermoforming in our two minute video.
The most attractive and hygienic way to fit Altro Whiterock around a window is to thermoform it, with trim on the corner and mastic elsewhere.
The best result is achieved by removing the toilet before fitting the floor, putting the co-ordinating colour mastic in the fixture holes and screwing the toilet back in. If the toilet can’t be removed, the floor will have to be cut to fit around it, with careful attention given to sealing to prevent any water ingress. If not done properly, the weld may fail – contact us if you are interested in attending our floors training school to learn more.
The best result is achieved by removing the sink before fitting the floor, putting the co-ordinating colour mastic in the fixture holes and screwing it back in. If the sink can’t be removed, the floor will have to be cut to fit around it, with careful attention given to sealing to prevent any water ingress.
These doorsets are custom-made, hygienic and low-maintenance. Available to match your chosen shade of Altro Whiterock, they are ideal for wet environments: no door swelling or water damage!
Once the walls sheets have been installed, use a co-ordinating colour mastic to seal to space between the sheet and the door frame.
Simply measure where sockets, pipes etc are and cut the Altro Whiterock wall sheet accordingly, using a jigsaw and following all recommended health and safety guidelines. For guidance on setting up your work station, see our video.
Once the wall sheets are in place, simply mark the areas where fittings will go, drill and fix in the usual way. If any fittings are going into the floor, put mastic into the drilled hole before installing them, helping them stay in place.
It’s vital to lift out the drain cover and cut the flooring so that it goes down inside the drain until it’s vertical – find out more.
