Clean your Altro flooring in 5 easy steps

Getting new flooring installed is exciting, but once it's in, you may be asking yourself, “What’s next?”

You’re now faced with this new responsibility of keeping the flooring looking as good as the day it was installed. Dirty flooring isn’t just an eyesore; it’s also a safety hazard. Ensuring your facility stays properly cleaned is just as important as selecting the right flooring.

With a floor like Altro safety flooring, using the right cleaning method is key to maintaining its effectiveness and appearance.

I recently visited an ice cream shop that had just installed Altro safety flooring. The staff were used to dealing with broken tiles that trapped lots of ice cream, hot fudge, candy, and you name it in the grout lines, making them hard to clean.

They had their cleaning routine down to a science, but when they upgraded to Altro safety flooring, they didn’t update their routine. Unfortunately, this meant their flooring wasn’t being cleaned as effectively as it could be.

Here's the same advice I gave them: Follow these five easy steps and you’ll keep your flooring in top shape.

Step 1. Sweep and/or vacuum

Start by removing all loose dust and debris that have fallen on the floor throughout the day. A good sweep or vacuum will make the next steps a lot more effective.

Step 2. Apply diluted AltroClean44 to the floor

This step is crucial. Apply your cleaning solution and allow it to sit for five minutes. This gives the cleaner time to work on the surface. Be careful not to flood the floor unless your system is designed for it.

For areas with heavy oil and grease, AltroClean 44+ can be used.

Step 3. Scrub floor with a rectangular Altro Unipad

Next, use a rectangular Altro Unipad to scrub out all the dirt and grime on your floor. This will ensure a thorough, deep clean.

Step 4. Remove dirty water

You can either use a microfiber mop and squeegee or a wet vac to remove the wash water. If your flooring system has a drain installed, squeegee towards the drain. It is important to choose the method that best suits your preference and flooring system.

Step 5. Mop the floor with fresh, clean water

After removing the dirty water, take a microfiber mop and wash the floor with fresh, clean water. This step ensures no cleaning residue remains on the floor, leaving it fresh and clean.

By following these five steps, you'll keep your Altro flooring looking great and performing well.
