Marlborough, Massachusetts - Alliance Health at Marie Esther is a senior living community in Marlborough, Massachusetts, that provides a continuum of elderly care services. A cross between assisted living and skilled nursing, the rest home offers residents wellness programs, social activities and additional support with activities of daily living. Marie Esther has a 5 Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and won the 2023 Silver Award from the American Health Care Association.
To continue best serving its community, Marie Esther Rest Home underwent a renovation. Like many other senior living communities, Marie Esther wanted to elevate its living spaces with evidence-based design showing that living environments can influence a person’s wellbeing.
It is also believed that age and dementia-friendly design can make a real difference for people as they age, removing some of the stress, frustration and confusion from everyday living. One way that Marie Esther achieved this was by upgrading the residents’ bathrooms to have a more residential feel, which led to LWDA Inc. specifying Altro Tegulis and Altro Aquarius.
Marie Esther chose Altro Tegulis for the walls because it has the look and feel of tile. However, unlike traditional porous grout used in ceramic tile installations, the grout lines embedded into its surface are impervious to moisture.
Residents of senior living facilities are already at a higher risk than the rest of the population of contracting an infection due to age and increased vulnerability to illness. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain a clean and healthy indoor environment to ensure a high quality of life for residents and peace of mind for their loved ones. Altro Tegulis offers ease of maintenance and cleanability due to its ability to prevent water and bacteria from penetrating below the surface, allowing for thorough cleaning and disinfecting.
Additionally, according to the CDC, 80% of falls among people of all ages occur within a bathroom. To address this risk, Marie Esther selected Altro Aquarius for the bathroom floors. Since the bathroom is the site of many accidents and falls, installing slip-resistant flooring was essential.
Altro Aquarius was developed for lasting performance in wet and dry environments, with shoes, or bare feet, making this 2mm safety floor the perfect choice where water, shampoo and soap contaminants are present.
Together, Altro Tegulis and Altro Aquarius combine safety and durability with a touch of sophistication to enhance the residents’ overall living environment.
