Calgary, AB, Canada - Paramount 24 Hour Animal Hospital, located in the heart of Calgary, Alberta, is a 24-hour veterinary facility dedicated to providing exceptional care for animals and their owners. With a mission to provide exceptional care for pets and peace of mind for their owners, the hospital needed a space that combined durability, hygiene and comfort to support its demanding operations.
During the schematic design phase, Holland Licensed Interior Design conducted an in-depth research process to identify finishes that would meet the unique demands of a veterinary hospital environment. Flooring with superior slip resistance for both people and animals, as well as high durability against scratches caused by dog and cat nails, was a top priority.
Cleanability and longevity were critical, which led to early specification discussions with the Altro team to ensure the selected materials aligned seamlessly with these requirements. Altro Reliance 25, Altro Wood Comfort and Altro Whiterock were selected as the ideal solutions to create a safe, functional and welcoming environment.

Carefully selected colors complemented the design direction, while contrasting finishes created dynamic, visually engaging floor patterns. In high-traffic areas such as treatment rooms, surgical suites and triage, Altro Reliance 25 was installed for its unmatched durability. The 2.5mm thick safety flooring is designed to withstand heavy equipment and frequent use while maintaining a modern, professional appearance. The design also incorporated bold graphic patterns created with contrasting colors in the sheet flooring, unifying the large floor plate into a cohesive and visually engaging environment. The heat-welded installation ensured a seamless, hygienic finish that reinforced both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
For reception, staff areas and offices, Altro Wood Comfort was chosen to bring a warm, natural aesthetic to these spaces. Its enhanced underfoot comfort supports staff working long shifts, while its durability ensures it stands up to the wear and tear of daily use.
In surgical suites, preparation areas and in-patient spaces, Altro Whiterock provided an ideal hygienic solution. This seamless, heat-welded wall cladding resists impact and moisture, creating a sterile environment that is easy to clean and maintain. Its durability eliminates the need for additional protective features such as corner guards or bumpers.
Opened in 2024, Paramount 24 Hour Animal Hospital successfully integrated these Altro solutions into a cohesive design that supports the hospital’s commitment to providing top-quality care. Paramount 24 Hour Animal Hospital is now equipped to serve Calgary’s pet community for years to come.
