Altro Atlas 40, Altro Timbersafe
The fantastic new 18,000-capacity stadium has given the Merseyside club a new lease of life. Opened in February 2012, Langtree Park replaces the old Knowsley Road Stadium, and is a family friendly ground located on the fringes of the town centre.
Its creation is the result of the driving ambition of club chairman Eamonn McManus, whose aim is to elevate the club to a position where it can be self sufficient through its superb spectator and corporate facilities. Saints fans can now see their heroes battling for the Stobart Super League trophy in what is probably the best rugby ground in the country.
Barr Construction, the new stadium’s main contractor, specified three different types of Altro Flooring for the new build. Jonathan Wood, Project Architect at Barr Construction explains: “For the new stadium we needed a good range of flooring products that were easy to specify, plus a high level of support and service from the manufacturer. We certainly get that with Altro.”
For Langtree Park, Barr Construction specified Altro Atlas 40 for the players’ changing rooms and tunnel. This product is 4mm thick and the toughest Altro safety flooring, so it can tolerate the studwear on boots and also provides excellent anti-slip characteristics in muddy, wet conditions.
In the café area of the new stadium, they opted for Altro Timbersafe, a wood effect safety flooring that is perfect for busy public areas and features Altro’s Easyclean Maxis Technology.
For the hospitality suite bar areas, Barr Construction wanted a safety floor that was attractive to look at while also having good anti-slip properties. They selected Altro Designer 25, a 2.5mm-thick flooring which includes coloured quartz crystals in its surface, which complement the club’s interior colour scheme. It also has bacteriostat for enhanced hygiene.
The flooring was installed by John Abbott Flooring. Martin Smith, Contract Manager at the company, says: “It was a tight deadline and a very demanding project. We had to work around all sorts of other contractors and our teams were there constantly for six weeks to get the flooring installed on time. Altro products are very easy to lay, which really helps in a short time-span like that, and they look great.”
