Penang Adventist Hospital

Quick, adhesive-free flooring installs without hospital closure

Altro Cantata

George Town, Malaysia - Established in 1924, the Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) is part of an International Adventist Network of approximately 600 nonprofit hospitals, clinics and dispensaries worldwide. Far from its humble beginnings, PAH has grown into a reputable healthcare center for both the Malaysian community and international visitors. The hospital staff consists of dedicated physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals utilizing the latest innovations in medical equipment to provide patients with the best care possible.

With recent renovations to its heritage wing, PAH was looking for a tough flooring solution that would endure the consistently heavy foot traffic they receive daily. They also required a quick installation where this wing was part of the only connection to the other building and surgery rooms.

“The corridor is a key single thoroughfare connecting vital parts of the hospital, and is in high use from 4:30 am to 11pm every day,” explained Caleb Lim, a PAH representative. “Because of this we have limited time to refurbish the corridor. Altro Cantata enabled us to do the refurbishment over just a few nights, not impacting any of the hospital operations, where other traditional options meant the corridor would need to be closed for one to two weeks which would not be an option.”

With 253 hospital beds including 10 ICU beds and 9 HDU beds, the hospital could not afford to shut down. Despite a tight timeframe, the BDC Corporation was able to install Altro Cantata on time for the busy hospital.

PAH now has more than just a great looking installation - they can rest assured knowing that the smooth flooring will provide easy maintenance, and a long life expectancy while offering patrons a higher slip resistance rating than competitor smooth sheet flooring.

“Altro Cantata flooring solved our problem of refurbishing this important corridor without interrupting the operations of the hospital,” concluded Lim.
