Desiro RUS series, Sochi, Russia

Siemens regional trains equipped with Altro Transflor

The transport infrastructure in Sochi is being renewed and expanded, and Siemens have been awarded the contract to supply 54 Desiro RUS series trains for regional use in Russia.

The flooring specification for these trains is quite different in Russia. The vehicles are wider, measuring 3.5 meters and strict regulations are also in place with regard to hygiene, durability, slip resistance and passenger safety.

The Altro Transflor product chosen meets these needs and Siemens has now laid more than 18,000 m² of Altro Transflor safety flooring in regional trains.

Due to its composition and processing Altro Transflor protects the subfloor of the train from humidity. The 2mm thick flooring is highly durable and has sustained slip resistance of TRRL >36 complying with Class R10 to safeguard passenger safety. The long-lasting durability of the flooring contributes to reduced repair and replacement costs.

“We are well-acquainted with Altro’s flooring from previous projects,” said Marion Rimkus, Category Manager at Siemens in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. “The Altro family-run business is a leading provider of flooring solutions in the transport sector.

“The quality of Altro’s flooring for the specific conditions required in Russia played a crucial role in our decision, especially with regard to the national fire safety requirements, as well as their long service life and durable slip resistance.”
