The Golden Temple, also known as Durbar Sahib or Darbār Sahib, meaning “abode of God” and “exalted court” is a gurdwara located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the preeminent spiritual site of Sikhism. Over 100,000 people visit the holy shrine daily for worship and the gurdwara complex has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As the temple flooring is made from marble, during the two monsoon seasons the floor becomes very slippery with rain water. This presents a high slip risk for visiting tourists and worshippers. The carpet prayer mats were also being damaged by the rain and, when wet, were uncomfortable for worshippers to use. Owing to its historic importance, the marble floor could not have an adhered safety flooring installed and the temple required a flooring solution that could be used on a temporary basis.
Altro’s distributor partner, Floor Décor, had the opportunity to provide Altro Aquarius, a specialist solution that could offer safety and comfort during the monsoon season. Altro Aquarius is supplied in a roll and was overlaid on the historic marble flooring to benefit the devotees during the monsoons.
Altro Aquarius is especially suitable for environments with high slip risk in wet and dry conditions. It achieves class B according to DIN 51097 for barefoot use, as well as a pendulum test value (PTV) of ≥50 (slider 96).
Altro Aquarius keeps you safe with common contaminants such as shampoo and conditioner. Comfortable underfoot and resistant to wear and tear from shoes. Great in bathrooms, showers, saunas, spas.
