Hitchin Rugby Football Club is a charity whose mission is to promote participation in and the sport of rugby at all age levels within the Hitchin and district area. The club has teams from ages 7-64+ years. Founded in 1865, the facilities were built in the 1950s and were in need of refurbishment. The club was awarded a grant of £150,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England towards the cost of the £480,000 project. The refurbishment plans were to build six new changing rooms each with integrated showering and toilet facilities.
Project Architect Jon Read from Pentangle Design selected Altro Whiterock hygienic wall cladding and Altro Aquarius safety flooring for the showering facilities. The flooring was installed by Superior Finish Contracts Ltd. Altro Aquarius and Altro Whiterock hygienic wall cladding were selected for a high quality finish that would stand the test of time.
Iain Charnley, Project Manager at Hitchin Rugby Club, said: “We needed high quality, durable surfaces that would be able to be easy to clean and maintain. Altro was perfect for us, with the added benefit that it is a local company. They provided guidance throughout the build and even trained our staff on the best ways to clean and maintain the floor. Overall it was a great experience and we couldn’t recommend them enough.”
Altro Aquarius is a specialist safety flooring for wet environments. Altro Aquarius was developed for lasting performance in wet and dry, shoes or barefoot.
