John Coxall Court (JCC) is a brand-new flagship development of apartments for over-55s in Letchworth Garden City built by First Garden City Homes. With a history steeped in pride and innovation, Letchworth Garden City is the world’s first Garden City. JCC was designed to give over 55s a place where they could live with, or without support. This is achieved by creating a building concept that can be adapted to people’s needs as they change, by the way of design and furnishings.
Designed to incorporate a seasonal theme, featuring local landmarks to provide a homely feel and differentiation between floors, biophilic design was used to create walls in communal areas featuring local landmarks. With seasonal aspects the areas would provide welcoming talking points for residents and visitors alike.
First Garden City Homes wanted to use a local designer and a local manufacturer to provide artwork and the wall cladding.
Altro Whiterock Digiclad (Custom) was chosen for its custom print option, while also providing surface protection and scratch-resistant properties. Four different colours of Altro Ensemble modular flooring system were selected for the communal areas and the lounge/cafe, providing comfort underfoot and 15dB impact sound reduction. “We would definitely use the Altro products again. Initially we were not aware of Altro Whiterock Digiclad (Custom) or Altro Ensemble, but the installation looks amazing, and residents love the stunning end result on each floor.
We wanted to create something that we wanted to live in ourselves and that residents would be pleased to occupy, with a light, spacious, airy and luxurious feeling.
