Oak Cottage at Maple Lane is the first mental health care program in Washington state that isn’t centralised. It’s part of an effort to change how behavioral health services are provided across the entire state. This behavioural mental health (BMH) facility dedicates itself to creating a patient-centric healing environment that places the utmost priority on safety.
In BMH facilities, bathroom and shower areas are high-risk zones because patients may spend time alone with minimal or no supervision. BCRA Design desired a floor and wall solution for these areas that prioritised tamper resistance, safety, and durability. Their objective was to implement a system that eliminated the need for trim pieces or sealants while seamlessly integrating with the floor covering. Through a collaborative effort with their local Altro representative, BCRA Design ultimately specified Altro Whiterock and Altro Aquarius.
BCRA Design chose Altro Whiterock for its durability, impact resistance, hygienic properties, and ease of cleaning. With its impressive impact resistance, Altro Whiterock ensures that it can endure the stresses of potentially aggressive behaviour without chipping or cracking. Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces were selected for lasting performance in wet rooms and bathrooms and high slip resistance, making them the ideal choice for patient bathroom and shower areas.

Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces are our specialist solution safety floors for combined wet and dry, shoe and barefoot areas keeping users safe with common contaminants such as shampoo and conditioner.
The main benefit that led us to Altro was that Altro Whiterock, Altro Pisces and Altro Aquarius can be welded watertight, creating a seamless transition from the floor to the wall.
Together, Altro Whiterock, Altro Pisces and Altro Aquarius enable Maple Lane to facilitate treatment while prioritising the safety and security of users and staff across all bathroom and shower areas.
