Altro Walls Showerkits installation guide

  1. Ensure installation area is free from surface dust and contamination and all irregularities are made good prior to commencement. Ceramic tiles must be thoroughly cleaned, degreased, rinsed and left to dry.
  2. Where gaps need to be bridged between baths or shower trays, mark out and install trims as per drawing.
  3. Measure and cut base trims to length. Bed the first trim into a bead of AltroFix MP600 adhesive.
  1. Cut a 45 degree mitre at one end of second trim (B), to allow it to overlap the first trim (A), dry fit and cut to length.
  2. As previously, bed second trim into position using AltroFix MP600 and fill any open trim cavities with AltroFix MP600 to seal.
  3. Mark a datum line on the substrate, this is the measuring point for abutments and first fix plumbing. Mark the line at a suitable height to allow ease of measurement taking.
  1. Decide where to place the sheet joints ensuring they are set away from the corners.
  2. Using the datum line as a reference point, measure the area where the installation is to take place and study the sheet tile design to maintain the design as the installation progresses.
  1. Mark the datum line on the sheet (on the protective film) and take measurements for ceiling height etc. Using an ink pen, measure and mark the cut on the protective film and carefully cut the sheet to the required dimensions. Use a smoothing tool to finish the cut edge. It is important to ensure all edges are straight, to create the effect of a uniform grout joint, before adding the silicone at a later part of the installation.
  2. Dry fit the sheet to ensure it fits, with small expansion joints of no more than 3mm maximum to all rigid abutments. Once fitted, clean the back face of the sheet. Do not use oil-based products to clean the sheet as this will prevent the AltroFix MP600 from adhering to the sheet.
  3. Once the sheet has been cleaned, create a grid using the AltroFix MP600 and infill the squares to ensure a good bond and transfer of adhesive when installing to the substrate. The grid squares must be no larger than 400mm x 185mm and the chevrons no wider apart than 75mm. Correct ratio equals 2 tubes of AltroFix MP600 to 1 Altro Walls ShowerKit sheet.
  1. To ensure a watertight detail is created in the internal corners, apply an unbroken bead of silicone starting no more than 10mm from the ceiling corner down to the top of the trim or the finishing point of the sheet and also along the base trim.
  2. Install sheet to substrate ensuring 2mm gap all around. Apply pressure to the full face of the sheet to ensure the AltroFix MP600 adhesive transfers to the substrate, and that the bead of silicone is compressed at the same time.
  3. Thoroughly press sheet to substrate, ensuring full adhesive transfer.
  1. Where the jointing of sheets is required, a dedicated Altro trim is inserted so the sheet edges butt up to the trim nib tightly. Apply a bead of silicone along the length of the trim before inserting behind sheet.
  2. When installing the trim it is vital the trim is pressed in place tightly against the sheet edges so there are no gaps between the installed sheet and the trim.
  3. Pull protective film back allowing space for bead of silicone along length of joint, taking care not to not overfill, but ensure the gap is fully sealed. Spray the silicone and sheet edges with a soapy water solution, and blade off with a flat tool to create a fully sealed joint to match the grout effect of the sheet.
  1. Install any adjacent sheets as per previous instructions.
  2. Remove protective film, clean and then seal all abutments and joints with Altro sanitary sealant. Spray the silicone and sheet edge with a soapy water solution, and blade off with a flat tool to create a fully sealed joint to match the grout effect of the sheet.
  3. Once installation is complete, clean all surfaces with Altro anti-static solution.
  1. Leave 24 hours prior to use, this includes installation of surface fixings.
  1. When cutting or drilling holes, for shower heads and controls, leave a 2mm gap between the wall sheet and fixed object.
  2. The 2mm clearance should be filled with silicone sealant after the sheets have been installed but before the fittings or control units are fitted.
  3. If required, the fittings can then be sealed.
